Your Pre-Summer Renovation Checklist

Feb 2026|Empire Premier Renovation

Summer offers the longest days, the most predictable weather, and the best conditions for both interior and exterior renovation work. But a successful summer project starts months earlier. Here is the checklist we review with every client who wants to break ground before June.

Start with permits. Municipal offices in Hudson, Albany, and surrounding areas can take four to eight weeks to approve renovation permits, especially during spring when applications spike. Submitting in February or March puts you at the front of the queue.

Next, finalize your material selections by early spring. Custom cabinetry, imported tile, and specialty fixtures often have lead times of six to twelve weeks. Ordering early prevents delays and gives you time to adjust if something is backordered.

Schedule your contractor now, not in May. The best renovation crews book their summer calendars by March. If you wait until spring to hire, you may face limited availability or higher rates from contractors with open slots during peak season.

Plan for disruption. Summer renovations often mean barbecuing instead of cooking, or setting up a temporary kitchen in the garage. If you have children home from school, consider how construction noise and restricted zones will affect daily routines.

Finally, think about paint and exterior finishes. Warm, dry weather is ideal for exterior painting and deck sealing. Interior paint also cures better in moderate humidity. Scheduling painters for early summer gives you the best adhesion and finish quality.
